You Can Never Have Enough College Heroes That Are NFL Zeroes

I don't know why I even mention it other than to gawk at his pathetic career numbers but today the New England Patriots signed former Ohio State star linebacker Bobby Carpenter.

A first-round pick (18th overall) for the Dallas Cowboys in 2006, he has already bounced around the NFL with this being his fifth team (Cowboys, Rams, Lions, Dolphins) in seven seasons. I can't even really explain his lack of production (concussions?) since he's been relatively durable (89 games) but only started a handful of games in his career.

He was a stud for the Buckeyes but he only has 165 tackles in his career (126 solo, 39 assists) with 3.5 sacks, one fumble recovery and one interception.

With Detroit and Miami, his two most recent stops, he's been mostly used on special teams which is likely the only way he'll even sniff a roster spot on the Patriots in the 2012 season. Makes you wonder (cough, cough) how a guy could be so good in college but such a nobody only a few years later. Weird and kind of shady.
