Clay Buchholz is pitching like a man on a mission, too bad the same cannot be said for the rest of the Red Sox rotation this season.
Buchholz (10-3) pitched his second complete game of the season and fifth of his career as Boston (56-58, 27-24 away) beat Cleveland (52-61, 29-28 home) 3-2 tonight at Progressive Field in the second game of the four-game set.
Buchholz only allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Asdrubal Cabrera had a solo homer (13th of the season) in the first for the Indians and Ezequiel Carrera's sacrifice fly in the sixth provided the other run.
Dustin Pedroia (2 hits, walk, run, stolen base) had an RBI single in the fourth as he continues to heat up while Cody Ross had the big blow with a two-run blast (18th of the season) in the sixth.
Young journeyman (I realize that's an oxymoron) Chris Seddon (0-1) pitched well enough to win on most nights for Cleveland. In six innings, he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Red Sox rookie third baseman Will Middlebrooks reportedly broke his wrist after getting hit by a pitch in the ninth inning. With only seven weeks left in the regular season, who knows when he would be able to return? I feel bad for him since he's having a very solid year and for fans, he is one of the only reasons to watch this team day in and day out. Boston will have to call up Danny Valencia from Pawtucket to take his place.
Franklin Morales (3-2) faces Zach McAllister (4-4) tomorrow night (6:05 p.m., NESN). Other than Buchholz, Morales has been the most trustworthy Red Sox starter in 2012 so I think he'll give them another good outing.
