Clay Buchholz Named American League Pitcher of the Month (for April)

One of the main reasons for Boston's MLB-best record of 19-8 has been Clay Buchholz (6-0) and Jon Lester's (4-0) brilliant personal starts to 2013. The Red Sox are 11-1 in the games started by their pair of rejuvenated aces. Today, on the heels of his gem (7 IP, 0 runs, 2 hits, 8 strikeouts, 3 walks) last night in Toronto (a 10-1 win for the Red Sox), Buchholz was named the AL Pitcher of the Month for April.

Clay was so good last night that he prompted a Blue Jays honk announcer to accuse him of doctoring the ball (Haha ok buddy) and Boston Globe beat writer Nick Cafardo wrote about how he might be the best pitcher in baseball. Making those accusations is laughable since he's always had this ability with some of the best stuff in baseball, same with throwing so many bouquets at him a month into the regular season but he has been flawless.

In April, Buchholz was 5-0 with 1.19 ERA, 39 strikeouts and 37.2 innings over five starts. He became the first Red Sox pitcher to win the AL Pitcher of the Month since he did it himself back in August 2010. As always, the key for Buchholz is health. He always seems to break down with some nagging injury or another. in the middle of the season since he's such a skinny guy. Let's hope this year that trend starts to change and we can finally see what he can do in a full season at the top of his game.
