Bruins Prospect Dougie Hamilton Selected For Team Canada In The WJC

It has been a whirlwind of a year for Bruins prospect Dougie Hamilton.

The 18-year-old blueliner for the Niagara Ice Dogs of the OHL was selected by the defending Stanley Cup Champion Bruins in June, he has put up silly numbers in the OHL so far this season and he has now been selected to represent his country alongside his brother Freddie on the Canadian national team. Current Bruins winger Jordan Caron was the last Bruin to represent Teams Canada in the World Juniors Championship.

Hamilton has been an absolute stud this season. In just 30 games, he has put up 12 goals, 33 assists and is a plus-9 overall. This is precisely what Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli was looking for when he selected the 6-foot-4 defenseman from Toronto, the last piece of the haul that the B's got from the Phil Kessel trade.

Hamilton, who was just signed to a three-year entry-level deal last week, could either challenge for a Bruins roster spot next year or return to juniors for his final year of eligibility. Chiarelli thinks that he will make a splash in Boston.

“Lot of factors involved, but I think he’ll challenge for a spot next year,’’ Chiarelli said.

Bruins fans will be able to watch what could be a top-4 defenseman up close and personal during this year's WJC, which typically airs on the NHL Network, starting on December 26th as Canada squares off with Finland.
